Matty Longstaff is back at Newcastle United are the club terminated the midfielder's season-long loan deal.
Chronicle Live broke the news that Longstaff was returning on December 17 and after being afforded just three Scottish Premiership starts by Aberdeen, the Pittodrie side are powerless to stop him heading back to Tyneside due to a clause in his original loan terms.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe is keen to assess the 21-year-old in training before deciding whether to either hand him a chance or find a more suitable loan club.
Former Newcastle winger Stephen Glass, in charge of the sixth-placed Dons these days, was asked about Longstaff's situation and said: "He’s gone back after the break was moved forward.
"They pulled him back.
"He’d been injured in the last two or three weeks to be fair.
"Matty’s gone back to Newcastle.
"They probably want to get him involved.
"There’s a new manager there who will want to take a look at him.
"We wish him all the best.
"He’s been brilliant around the place and I think he’s enjoyed his time here."
Aberdeen defeated Dundee in the Scottish top-flight today and now go into the Premiership's winter break with three weeks to prepare for a home game with Rangers.
