'They play the right way and it'll click': League Two boss gives Bolton Wanderers verdict

Steve Ball feels getting a win against Bolton Wanderers was 'massive' for Colchester United as he believes Ian Evatt's side will 'click soon'.

Wanderers lost their first away day of the season in Essex over the weekend.

Tom Eastman nodded the U's in front just before half-time, while Jevani Brown added a second after the break.

The result leaves Bolton 21st in League Two after two defeats in their opening matches of the season in the fourth tier, while the Jobserve Community Stadium outfit sit sixth in the table.

And U's head coach Ball was pleased to keep a team with the players of Bolton's quality off the scoresheet.

He told the Daily Gazette : "It was a really important clean sheet against a very good team.

"We knew we’d be facing a very good side – we saw that in the prep.

"The staff have done a very good job this week highlighting Bolton’s really good players.

"Nathan Delfouneso is a top player at this level and we had to stop them – that was the key because they have threats all over the pitch."

Bolton were installed by the bookmakers as the pre-season favourites to lift the League Two title in May and Wanderers are targeting being a League One club again in the 2021/22 campaign.

But with 17 new players brought in to the University of Bolton Stadium so far this summer under new head coach Evatt, things are still gelling on the pitch for Wanderers.

But U's boss Ball believes that Bolton will click soon and therefore did not underestimate the importance of claiming three points.

He added: "They have big expectations and that’s a big pressure on the club.

"But they do it the right way and they play the right football and I think they’ll click soon so to get a win against them is massive."
