'They must be crowned champions!' - former Tottenham man makes Liverpool Premier League title claim

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes that Liverpool must be crowned Premier League champions otherwise it would be the most unfair thing to ever happen in sport.

All Premier League fixtures were postponed until April 4 at the very earliest on Friday morning, as Premier League bosses met in London to discuss how they could stop the spread of coronavirus on such a rapid scale.

Premier League clubs will meet again on Thursday to discuss potential contingency plans should the league fail to restart in early April, with UEFA meeting on Tuesday to ponder what's next for the Champions League and Europa League.

Some from within the game have suggested that the season must be voided which would mean that Liverpool would be denied the Premier League title, despite being just two wins away from securing it.

While others, including Reds legends Sir Kenny Daglish and Robbie Fowler, believe that the season must be played to a finish.

But O’Hara has gone on step further and demanded that Jurgen Klopp’s side are crowned champions regardless of what happens next.

“It would be the most unfair thing in sport ever if Liverpool aren’t crowned champions – they must be crowned champions!” he told talkSPORT.

“They’re going to have an asterisk next to their name forever, which is going to be a shocker for them if they don’t get the season finished.

“But everyone is going to have to make compromises for this situation as the season is not going to play out, it’s not going to finish.

“We’re not going to play any more football this season. We’re not going to be able to fit the games in and we need to get on top of this virus properly and seriously, and it’s not going to be, ‘let's start playing again in April’.”
