The NFL has been fortunate to be able to sit back and watch as the coronavirus pandemic has shaken up the sporting world at large, causing tournaments to be canceled, playoffs to be delayed, and Olympics to be postponed.
The NFL was actually fortunate enough to be able to hold the 2020 NFL Draft virtually, giving the sporting world some much-needed fodder to talk about for a few weeks, but coming up, the real test for football stands. With the summer months now here, training camp is fast approaching, and nobody quite knows how everything will pan out. There’s a plan, of course, but it could be derailed at any moment.
For Washington Redskins veteran running back Adrian Peterson, there isn’t much to worry about. He feels confident that the league will be able to work everything out.
“Yeah, I’m pretty confident they’ll figure it out,” Peterson said, via the Houston Chronicle. “When there’s that much money involved, they’ll figure it out.”
There isn’t much concern that the 2020 season will be canceled, but the risk of being delayed or postponed is definitely prevalent. There is also the almost assumed outcome where many of the games are played without fans, which will leave team and stadium owners missing out on a large sum of money that will be lost without ticket sales and concessions.
Of course, TV contracts are worth a lot of money as well, and if that’s all that can be salvaged of this season, it will have to be enough. With as much money on the table as there is, it’s nearly impossible to think that we’d have a year without NFL football going forward.
