'They'll be right up for this game' - Graeme Souness on Newcastle United vs Liverpool

Former Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness believes Liverpool's title challenge could be derailed thanks to the Magpies.

Liverpool travel to St James' Park on May 5 - the penultimate game of the season, and Souness believes that it is a game to 'worry' about.

Souness who played and managed Liverpool told Sky Sports that Newcastle fans would be 'up' for the game, and Rafa Benitez's tactics could prove troublesome for the Reds.

"I think that looking at them, the dangerous game for Man City is the (Man) United game.

“Derby games are notoriously hard to predict.

“The dangerous game to me for Liverpool, is Newcastle away.

“I think the next game (for Liverpool) takes care of itself, Cardiff. Although they will want to go to war, Cardiff, will be fighting for their lives and I think Liverpool will deal with that, then the three guys up front have got a goal or two.

“I think Huddersfield (for Liverpool) takes care of itself as well, they (Huddersfield) re already thinking about next season.

“For me, that Newcastle one is the worry.

‘The way Rafa sets his team up, you can see that he is quite happy to sit back, to absorb the pressure and try and catch them on the break.

‘Tactically he is very, very good and the support up there will be right up for this game

“They will want to put a spoke in it.

“Then ideally you’d have been wanting Wolves to get to the cup final so that their minds would have been somewhere else.

“But for me it is Liverpool at Newcastle and (Man) City at Old Trafford.

“They are the games that will decide this league."

Liverpool currently sit top of the Premier League on 85 points, two ahead of City who have a game in hand.
