Tackling bad smells in your car can be difficult. However, this driver says that an air freshener can make things significantly worse.
There are a lot of strange scents that you can buy, from fragrances that remind you of newly-unboxed Apple products to aromas based on comets.
However, just because a scent is interesting, that doesn’t mean that it’s good—or safe. Some people have allergic reactions to air fresheners, and many air freshener brands contain hazardous chemicals that may not be listed on their labels.
Other problems can emerge from using air fresheners as well, as TikTok user Georgia (@georgia.m.peach) revealed in a video with over 787,000 views.
How Did This Bath & Body Works Air Freshener Ruin a Car?
In her video, Georgia shows a Bath & Body Works Daisy Cluster Scent portable car air freshener that has been clipped to her car’s air vent.
Below the air freshener, the car shows significant damage, as though the plastic underneath the air freshener is disintegrating.
“Literally, Bath & Body Works [expletive] up my car,” she says. She then shows that pieces of the plastic appear to be melting.
“Never buy this [expletive],” she continues. “Brand new car, and it’s [expletive] melted. This [stuff’s] sticky.”
“Don’t buy this [expletive] literally,” Georgia concludes, removing the air freshener from the car’s air vent.
Is This Common?
Georgia isn’t the only one to have complained about these air fresheners.
On Reddit, multiple users have complained about leaking Bath & Body Works air fresheners causing damage to cars.
Some users have specifically complained about leaking air fresheners melting the buttons and plastics on their car, similar to the issue experienced by Georgia.
There does not appear to be an official statement on the issue from the company itself, though one comment claimed that Bath & Body Works offered to pay for the damage after it was reported to them.
In order to prevent this from happening, it’s best to avoid using car air fresheners altogether.

Commenters Say They’ve Seen It Before
In the comments section, users claimed that they’ve experienced something similar, though many say they were able to file a claim about it.
“It did the same to my car and I filed a claim with them and they paid for my repairs,” a user wrote.
“This happened to me but with a Febreze air freshener I documented everything pictures. Everything sent it in to Febreze and they paid $10,000 to fix my car,” offered another.
“They literally paid to fix mine. It was no hassle. Call customer service,” declared a third.
