'They have shown us' - Thomas Tuchel makes Liverpool title admission at Chelsea

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel believes his team must make further improvements in order to reach the level of Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Londoners currently sit top of the Premier League table after eight games played, having claimed a 1-0 win at Brentford on Saturday evening.

Tuchel's side have been in fine form so far this season and have conceded only three league goals thanks to the heroic efforts of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

A number of pundits backed Chelsea to claim the Premier League crown this season following the summer arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, but Tuchel only thinks this will be possible if lessons can be learned from Liverpool and City's past title triumphs.

“In general, Liverpool and Manchester City have proved throughout the last years that they are the benchmark in terms of quality and consistency," said Tuchel.

“They have shown us in the last years what it takes to be able to become champions.

"It was a race between the two teams and this is the benchmark and we have to improve in every aspect of the game - that includes defence and offence - because the game is a complex one. We will not stop trying to create more for our strike.”

Liverpool have already faced both Chelsea and City this season, being held to draws at Anfield.

Meanwhile, it was Pep Guardiola's side who got the better of Chelsea when the sides met at Stamford Bridge last month.
