'They have no other option' - Jamie Carragher's Everton manager warning to fans

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Everton have to axe Marco Silva but has warned the fans that they will struggle to get what they are hoping for.

A 5-2 demolition at the hands of Liverpool at Merseyside on Wednesday evening has left Silva on the brink of becoming the latest in a long line of managerial casualties since David Moyes' departure.

While the Scottish boss is widely backed to return to Goodison Park, Carragher has identified that the appointment would not be a popular one for the supporters.

However, he feels a short-term fix is necessary in order to steer Everton away from the threat of relegation as last night's result have left the club in the bottom three.

“I’ve had this discussion with a lot of Everton fans, and they’re so against David Moyes coming back. So against it you wouldn’t believe. I thought that considering the job he did there before, which I thought was miraculous at the time with the financial constraints," he told the Totally Football Show.

“But I don’t think they have any option now. They’ve been in this situation before 12-18 months ago when they brought Big Sam in. You almost need someone to come in and do a Sam Allardyce type of job really, in terms of just keeping them up.

“What do they do then? If Moyes comes in and keeps them up but the fans don’t want him, what do they do then? Do they go for another manager, do they keep Moyes?

“Everton isn’t an easy club to run or manage, because how are they ever going to be where the fans want them to be? Which is in the top four or competing with Liverpool. They’re basically one of those clubs that has been left behind, and unless they get a Manchester City-type ownership, they’re never going to get back to where the supporters maybe feel they should be.”
