It’s not exactly a secret that the royal family don’t approve of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s choices. The two sides of the family have been drifting apart for the better part of a decade now and while King Charles and Queen Camilla never publicly speak about what the Sussexes are up to it doesn’t mean they don’t have an opinion.
A recent video posted to Instagram by Markle has caught the attention of Sussex fans and haters alike, but more importantly, it’s caught the attention of her in-laws across the pond. The video in question features Meghan dancing and twerking while almost 40 weeks pregnant. It was posted by the Duchess of Sussex earlier this month and it instantly got people talking. Some even suggested that the video proved her pregnancy was fake as they claimed the bump wasn’t real.
What do King Charles and Queen Camilla think?
The King and Queen have not spoken about Prince Harry or Meghan Markle publicly for a long time and they’re not likely to start now. However, palace insiders claim that Charles and Camilla have seen the video and they reportedly are not very pleased.
According to Maureen Callahan of the Daily Mail, a source claimed that the video had “raised a lot of eyebrows” and that the king and Queen found the video to be “tragic.” That’s a pretty cutting response but it’s a response shared by many it seems, “there is a general sense that they have lost it.”
Admittedly the video does seem a little cringey but at least the couple seem to be having fun right? Well Callahan is siding firmly with Charles and Camilla on this one as she rips into Meghan for her video.
“Truly: what’s more royal, more regal — more befitting an American woman who married into her title and never lets us forget that she is a duchess — than releasing a home movie of yourself lifting up your dress, spreading your legs and gyrating while on the verge of giving birth?”
The royal family are known for being rather stoic and unemotional, after all, Harry has even accused King Charles of not being the best father in the past. So it makes sense that the King and Queen wouldn’t really get the video. It’s kind of the opposite of what is “normal” for the royal family.
Meghan did explain in the caption that the dance was intended to try and induce labor. However, the video perfectly demonstrates the difference between the Sussexes and the rest of the family, while Harry and Meghan aren’t afraid to let loose and embarrass themselves a little, the Royals in the U.K. are a lot more reserved. Perhaps they are just too different now to ever mend that rift.
