US late-night hosts all ripped into Britain's "V Day," which began on Tuesday (8 December) with 90-year-old Margaret Keanan being the first person to receive Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine.
"V-Day" is slang for “Vaccination Day”, which is part of Britain's mass inoculation program.
"Of course, it being Britain, they give you a shot in the other arm, which they call a lorry, and it’s administered with a spoonful of sugar,” Stephen Colbert joked on CBS' The Late Show.
"Of course, Britain’s most important citizens are all old," Colbert kept cracking. "The queen, Dumbledore, even that one doctor who’s been on TV for over 50 years. Who is that? Who? Who?!"
Other late-night hosts jumped in on the laughs, with The Daily Show's Trevor Noah joking that the freshly vaccinated Keenan would be all alone in "hitting the club."
Noah added: "Although, on the other hand, she’s the only person in the whole country who is now safe to go out, so she’s just going to be out hitting the club, like, ‘Woo! Where are all my party girls at? Seriously, where is everybody?’"
James Corden also poked fun on The Late Late Show, kidding that now Keenan could go see one of the only popular bands who've been brazen enough to hold live, in-person concerts in 2020. "Just in time – she has plans to go see the Chainsmokers live next week."
Jimmy Fallon got a few punches in on The Tonight Show, remarking, "That’s right, 90-year-old Margaret Keenan is the first patient in the world to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Or as the queen put it, ‘Sure. Sure, she was.'"
And: "The UK vaccine underwent rigorous testing. Apparently Gordon Ramsay would try every version and then berate the scientist."
Of course, they could all just be a little jealous. As Colbert pointed out, the vaccine Britain received is from Pfizer, which offered to sell extra doses to the US earlier this year, but President Trump passed up the offer.
“It’s leadership like that that will ensure the president will continue to lose the election,” Colbert said.
