‘They don’t have good intentions’: Man reveals the real reason you should never switch seats with someone on a plane

A man realized that people who want to switch seats on an airplane may not always have the best intentions. In a video with 1.7 million views, @thisdudenameddk discussed an awkward encounter on an airplane.

On his plane, a woman approached and asked if he would be willing to switch seats so she could sit next to her children.

The woman who asked @thisdudenameddk, however, seemingly wanted to sit next to two 35-year-olds. The TikToker noticed that there were no children in his row. When @thisdudenameddk asked about this, the woman immediately got enraged, asking the man if he was racist and repeatedly saying she was “owed” the seat. The woman then started offering him money, saying, “I’ll give you 20 bucks. I’ll give you 30 bucks.”

The man continued to refuse, considering how unusual the situation was. He tried to put his AirPods in, but the woman continued to try and talk to him. A flight attendant had to ask the woman to sit down.

Later, TSA came onto the plane and escorted the woman off the plane.

Commenters weigh in

Multiple people advised @thisdudenameddk to never offer or attempt to switch seats on a plane unless it’s through the airline.

@Jennsteele wrote, “I won’t switch, [so] don’t even ask! I paid for my seat, as you did yours! Not my problem if [you’re] not sitting next to [your] family!”

@SHAWN jokingly added, “The trick is if someone ask[s] to switch seats, just ask them for 400 dollars. They will leave you alone.”

A few commenters theorized that the woman was engaging in suspicious, possibly fraudulent activity, and that’s why she needed to switch seats so badly. While there’s no confirmation of that, TSA can kick customers off a plane for a number of reasons. Fraudulent activity could be one reason, but they can also remove passengers who are intoxicated or unruly. If the woman continued asking different passengers to switch seats with her, TSA may have made the decision to remove her.

The story continued when he landed

In a separate video, @thisdudenameddk answered a few questions about his story. Namely, that there was suspicious activity happening on that plane. When he got off the plane, he asked the flight crew what had happened with the woman at the beginning of the flight. Apparently, the woman had used a stolen credit card to purchase the flight. She tried to switch seats with other people on the flight so it would be harder to find her.
