The Republicans are clearly more afraid of the Democrats than the Democrats are of the Republicans. This is why time and again, Trump and his party haven’t missed an opportunity to speak ill of them in public while trying to do everything in their power to tarnish their image.
This time, Mike Johnson, the United States House of Representatives speaker, has taken the responsibility of expressing distaste over the behaviour of the Democrats. Speaking to host Laura Ingraham of Fox News on Tuesday, Johnson stated that they are confident they will win the midterm elections. He said:
“We’re gonna win the midterms, absolutely. We’re gonna have a big victory. And I think we can expand that majority so we can keep going.”
Mike Johnson also commented on what could happen if the Republicans did not win in the midterms and the Democrats did. Joking that they would impeach Trump again, Johnson said:
“We have to give President Trump four years and not two. Imagine if the Democrats took over the House; they’d impeach him.”
Johnson made these comments in relation to the House of Representatives impeaching Donald Trump twice, the most times for a President of the United States. The first one occurred in 2019 after he had called the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky and asked him to conduct a probe on Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. He asked him to do this as a favour to him while he withheld necessary military aid from Ukraine.
The second one took place in 2021 over Trump’s involvement in inciting hatred among groups that led to the January 6, 2021, attacks in the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. However, on both occasions, Trump’s case did not meet the required majority from the Senate for him to be convicted. And now he is the President of the United States for a second term. Will the third time be the charm, given what he has been up to since he came to power?
