'They are p*****!’ - Wayne Rooney sent Steven Gerrard message to two Manchester United team-mates

Former Manchester United defender Rafael has detailed what Wayne Rooney passed on to him on behalf of ex-Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

He and his brother Fabio were a part of the title-winning teams created by Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Over the years, the Brazilian duo became embroiled in a number of fierce matches and spats with the Reds as the two English giants battled it out to be crowned champions of England.

Rafael featured more against the Reds than his twin brother, Fabio, and won his first Premier League medal in 2009 where the Red Devils edged out Rafa Benitez's Liverpool to be crowned Premier League champions.

The 31-year-old was part of the winning United team on five of the eight occasions he featured for Sir Alex Ferguson's side against Liverpool.

Rafael was quoted in The Athletic saying : “Wayne Rooney told us that Steven Gerrard hated us.

"He said that Gerrard told him on international duty, ‘Those twins, they are p*****!’.

"We never did anything to him but wear a different shade of red. I guess that’s all it takes.

"And to be honest, I understood what he meant. The feeling was mutual.”
