'They are in pole position' - Bristol City on back foot in play-off chase says Sky Sports pundit

A Sky Sports pundit believes Bristol City's Premier League dreams will be kept alive this weekend - just.

The Robins host Derby County at 3pm on Saturday in a mammoth encounter between two play-off chasers.

Lee Johnson's side currently sit in eighth place, one point and two places behind the Rams.

Middlesbrough are sandwiched between them on 67 points having paid a game more.

Should they win they have every chance of sealing the final play-off spot, but should they lose their Premier League dreams will be all but over for another year.

But David Prutton believes a draw is most likely outcome as Derby, Middlesbrough and the Robins all continue to stutter in their bids to lay claim to sixth place in the Championship.

The Sky Sports pundit has predicted the result of the season-defining match, and although he thinks Derby are "in pole position" he reckons the battle for sixth will rumble on.

Who are the great tinkermen among the Championship's promotion chasers?

"No one seems to want sixth spot in the Championship at the minute," the former Southampton and Leeds defender said in his weekly column.

"Every time you think one of these teams are going to nail it down they slip up again, just as Bristol City did over Easter.

"Derby got a huge late win against QPR on Monday after what was not a very good performance, and they are in pole position again.

"I fancy a draw here to keep the battle for sixth rumbling on."

Although a draw would not be disastrous for Bristol City, the Robins will be hoping they can prove Prutton wrong and get a crucial, crucial three points.
