Judges have picked out two fish and chip shops in Leeds as the best in the entire region.
In a strong competition, just two takeaways in Leeds were deemed good enough to make the six-strong shortlist in the north east category for the 2020 National Fish & Chip Awards.
Taste testers travelled across the entirety of Yorkshire and the north east to find the crème de la crème of chippies, carrying out mystery visits and scrutinising the sustainability of the ingredients used.
Hook and Line at the Merrion Centre and The Bearded Sailor in Pudsey are both in with a shot of being named the best fish and chip shop in the region.
If either chippy is successful at this stage, they could even go on to be crowned the best in the entire country at The National Fish & Chip Awards ceremony in January 2020.
