These teenagers rescued four children from drowning in the sea

Three young people helped rescue four children from drowning on the last day of their holidays.

Hannah Thomas, her brother Josh and boyfriend Jamie Hall rushed to the rescue after seeing the children in trouble while enjoying the last moments of their time away in Dorset.

Hannah, from Merthyr Tydfil, said the trio had been walking back to their car on Thursday afternoon when her teenage brother spotted a man struggling with an inflatable kayak which he had used to help two children swept out to sea.

Only minutes after helping the man return the beach, the group saw another two children swimming a dangerous distance away from the shore.

Hannah, 21, said: "We looked over and saw a man who had what looked like an inflatable kayak and was helping two boys who had gone too far out into the sea.

"He couldn't move it so my brother went down the ladder and went and swam alongside the kayak and took them down to the beach."

According to Hannah, it was only a matter of minutes after the 18-year-old swimmer returned to Weymouth Beach when his help was needed again.

The private swimming teacher said: "Josh came back and he was getting his clothes back on and we spotted two children about 200m out from the beach.

"They were getting further and further out and they looked like they were struggling a bit.

"Josh went over and shouted out to them and they were shouting saying they needed help.

"We both went in down the ladder and another member of the public found a life ring around the corner and threw that to my brother.

"I went to get the second child to get them to the ring together.

"We are both strong swimmers but the waves and currents were quite strong so my boyfriend had to help.

"We were swimming but we weren't moving".

Luckily, the children, thought to be nine and 11 years old, were reunited with family after being helped back to the shore.

But the group have issued a warning to others to take care when swimming in the sea.

Hannah, a development coach for Merthyr Tydfil Swimming Club, said: "The little boy said to me 'grab my sister she she's weaker' but they were both so weak.

"It all happened in a couple of minutes - they were exhausted from a couple of minutes trying to stay afloat.

"They were fine, we could see them enjoying themselves and all of a sudden they got into difficulty.

"We all have lifeguard or swimming experience so there was no doubt about it - we had to go in."

The trio's warning comes days after a Welsh mother's heartbreaking warning over the dangers of cold water shock as temperatures soar.

Chris Turnbull was 15 when he was sucked down 30ft into a cold whirlpool under a waterfall  on the Afon Llugwy in Capel Curig, in  Snowdonia .

Last week, three people also died on beaches in southern France as Europe finds itself in the grip of heatwave hell.
