Mauricio Pochettino says that the experience of losing the Champions League final with Spurs has made him hungry to succeed and win a trophy this season.
And the Tottenham boss has said that is his personal target as he embarks on his sixth season at Tottenham , although he insists he is not putting any pressure on the team or the club.
But going one better this season, after losing out 2-0 to Liverpool in Madrid in June in the Champions League final last season, is what Pochettino is setting his sights on this season.
"A good season for us? My personal feeling is that starting my sixth season is to lift a trophy, Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Premier League or Champions League," he said., speaking ahead of Tottenham's opening game of the season against Aston Villa this afternoon (Saturday).
"I am not saying it is time. I don’t want to put pressure on the team or the club.
"But if you ask me personally, this season for me, to be successful, is not about finishing in the top four– of course for the club that is important and a success. But for me, it is about winning some title – the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup, the Premier League or the Champions League."
Meanwhile, Pochettino spoke of how he felt after seeing Spurs lose out against Liverpool, and why it has had a lasting impact on him and his aims for Spurs moving forward.
"You are there but you cannot touch the glory. My personal target, objective, an aim to be successful this season is to lift some trophy," he said.
"Of course, after the final in Madrid, I was talking to Jesus [Perez] and saying, ‘We need to prepare ourselves to be ready to play to try to have more influence’."
And his comments have gone down well with Spurs fans, who have been responding on social media to what he has said, as can be seen below.
