These North East mansions cost the same as a two-bedroom flat in central London

We all know the capital can be a bit on the pricey side but this really puts it into perspective.

According to Foxton's, a major estate agency, the average price of a home in central London is a staggering £1,438,610.

So what do you get for those sort of eye-watering prices?

Well, in Covent Garden, Victoria or Pimlico that'll get you a quite nice but small - and we mean small - two-bedroom flat.

It's fair to say your money would stretch a bit further in the North East.

Here are a few sprawling mansions and luxurious homes you'd get for the price of a flat in central London.

Morton House - £1,395,000

Built in the 1700s, Morton House is a stunning nine-bedroom home set in 12.5 acres of land.

The Grade-II listed building is located close to Houghton-le-Spring and is as much a historical site as it is a home.

Inside, it's the height of luxury - the kitchen even used to be a ballroom.

Great Lime Road - £1,200,000

The owner of this property has spent years refurbishing it and it really shows.

The five-bedroom house in Forest Hall, Newcastle, comes complete with a tennis court, an adjoining annexe flat and landscaped gardens.

It even comes with planning permission and enough space to build another six-bedroom house on the grounds - and all for less than a two-bed flat in central London.

Allendale - £1,500,000

If you wanted to spend a little bit more than the average central London price, you could have something like this in Northumberland.

Situated near Hexham, this traditional five-bedroom farmhouse comes with two cottages which can be used as holiday lets.

The picturesque properties offers stunning views of the rolling Northumberland countryside.

Old Orchard House - £1,495,000

Stretching the budget a bit again but for a little north of the price of a two-bed flat in the middle of London you could have this Northumberland country house.

Located in High Buston near the scenic coastal village of Alnmouth, the views from this five-bedroom house couldn't be much better.

Oh, and it comes with a snooker room and an indoor swimming pool.
