These 'footpath closed' diversion signs sent shoppers round in circles

You’ve heard of the road to nowhere, you might have seen the gate to nowhere , but have you encountered the footpath to nowhere?

Shoppers trying to get to the Aldi store in Llanelli were left confused and walking around in circles by two signs on the opposite sides of Swanfield Place.

Walking towards the Aldi store from the A483 you would be greeted by a sign saying ‘pedestrians please use other footway’ as wooden fencing blocked the path.

There are 21 homes are being built on that side of Swanfield Place and pedestrians are being diverted while building work continues.

But, many were left scratching their heads when arriving at the other side of the road and seeing a sign saying “footway closed.”

Getting to Aldi meant walking along the side of the store in Mill Lane and back up Prospect Place on the other side.

The River Lliedi flows around the edge of Aldi’s car park so you had the choice of either walking, or putting your flippers on.

The sign on the Aldi side of the road was placed there while Virgin Media carried out engineering works.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “Virgin Media is in the process of bringing ultrafast broadband to more homes and businesses in Llanelli. All work carried out was approved by the local council and was completed within a few hours. We apologise for any convenience caused.”
