These bizarre pet ads are giving me the creeps

Pet PSA poster featuring a cat-bin hybrid.

As someone who has always lived with pets, I can confirm they're sometimes the fluffy equivalent of a sentient bin. If I had a penny for every time I've shouted at my cat, "What are you eating?" I'd be a millionaire. Despite this, we still love our furry friends, and looking after their health is important, which is where the new print ads for Mousoudi Pet Shop come in.

A mixture of disturbing and enlightening, these bizarre ads might be a little visually off-putting, but they hone in on an important part of pet ownership – the danger of food scraps. With their unexpected visuals and authoritative copy, these simple yet striking ads are nearly impossible to ignore

Created by Ogilvy Greece, this playfully peculiar campaign centres around a collection of furry friends that have transformed into strange pet-bin hybrids, their lid mouths agape to receive stray morsels of food. Spilling up from their trash can bellies is various culinary waste, from bones to fish heads, alongside the phrase, "food scraps are for your bin, not for your dog".

While I'd argue that PSAs aren't always the most glamorous or exciting form of advertising, Mousoudi Pet Shop proves that there can be an element of playfulness. Visually disarming and tonally assertive, the Food Scraps campaign demonstrates how offbeat imagery can have a huge impact in engaging audiences.
