These are the world's most expensive fantasy novel collections - do you own one?

With Amazon Prime's Wheel of Time adaptation officially hitting our screens last month, it seems the fantasy genre is still going strong.

From Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, to Dune and His Dark Materials, the genre has been enchanting generations in the form of books and films for many years now.

If you grew up devouring any of these fantasy novel collections, then it might surprise you to hear that new research has suggested you could be sitting on a gold mine.

To coincide with Amazon's Wheel of Time starring Rosamund Pike, Patrol Base researched how much fantasy lovers may have tucked away on their bookshelves - with six of the most popular first edition collections totalling almost £23,000.

It will come as no surprise to anyone that Harry Potter continues to be one of the most lucrative fantasy franchises and fans who grew up with the boy wizard will want to be digging out their original novels.

A first edition of the Philosophers Stone is currently on sale for £5,500 - the total worth of the full seven book collection is worth over £10,000.

Frank Herbert's Dune enters the running in second place this year, with the first editions of the epic saga officially worth £7,231.

It follows the release of Dune on the big screen earlier this year, which starred both Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet.

First editions of The Lord of Rings trilogy which was originally published in 1954 are now worth £3,031.

The Wheel of Time 14 book collection is currently worth just shy of £1,000.

The Game of Thrones collection which was catapulted into fame by the TV adaption is made up of six novels. A collection of all six first editions is currently worth £706.

The His Dark Materials trilogy by Sir Phillip Pulman was first published in the early nineties. First editions of the three book collection are currently valued at £749.98.

Chris Hartwell from Patrol Base comments: “Immersing yourself into a fantasy fiction book is a chance to escape normality and day-to-day life so it's no wonder that first editions of the world’s most loved fantasy books are worth so much.

For many, they are prized possessions that will be passed down by generation and for others, they might have no idea how much their book collection is worth - they could be sitting on a goldmine!

It’s definitely worth checking whether you own any fantasy first edition novels and making sure they are looked after. I have no doubt these books will continue to increase in value.”
