These are the three worst roads to break down on in and around Edinburgh and the Lothians

A new study has shown three roads in the Lothians as some of the worst places to break down in Scotland.

The research, by Scrap Car Comparison, has highlighted some of the most unfortunate locations to have car trouble, with many in the central belt.

In the study, troublesome roads were ranked by the amount of rainfall, lack of phone signal, traffic levels and distances from services that can help, such as petrol stations or taxi companies, reports the Daily Record.

Taking this into account, a road was highlighted in both West Lothian, East Lothian and Midlothian.

These were:

  • The A1, approximately halfway between Haddington and East Linton (Lat 55.97 Lon -2.71) (East Lothian)
  • The A68, roughly halfway between Oxton and Fala village (Lat 55.82 Lat -2.85) (Midlothian)
  • The B9080, north of the Bridgend & District Golf Club (Lat 55.97 Lon -3.54) (West Lothian)

Dan Gick, Managing Director at Scrap Car Comparison commented: “Breaking down is one of the worst things about owning a car, but we all know certain roads are more favourable than others, so we wanted to find the stretches drivers should maybe try to avoid, especially if their car is reaching the more ‘unreliable’ leg of its life.

"Data science was the only way to achieve this, and it was really interesting to see millions of data points coming together to pinpoint the roads that are most inconvenient, or even outright dangerous when experiencing a fault with your car."
