Regally-themed names appear to be much more popular in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire than in the UK as a whole.

The Red Lion is the most popular name across the whole of the country, with 339 in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

There are 300 Royal Oaks, 217 Crown Inns - plus 110 Crowns - and 207 New Inns. The data shows that there are 851 pubs, B and Bs, hotels, nightclubs and bars registered with the FSA in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

And it also shows that The Swan Inn and the White Hart are the most common pubs names in our region, with six of each.
