These are the HUGE new plans for New Bailey which will change Manchester and Salford's skylines

Huge plans for the next phase of New Bailey in Salford Central have been revealed.

Images sent to the town hall show two towers scaling 23 storeys, connected by a six-storey building.

The development will be planned in two parts, with a total of 392 apartments envisioned for the two towers.

Developers English Cities Fund have only submitted detailed plans for the first phase, which includes one tower and the smaller building.

This would include 211 apartments, as well as space for shops on the ground floor.

They also show cycle and walkways to link the Irwell towpath and Princes Bridge crossing into the wider New Bailey site, while developers say there's also an opportunity for a new potential footbridge for a crossing to Manchester.

In planning papers, they say that the first phase will 'connect effortlessly' to the second phase of development.

Residents in the homes would be offered roof terraces providing 'fantastic views across both cities,' although there would be no car parking spaces.

Developers say they are following a recent city centre trend and instead would only provide cycle storage spaces.

The apartments would be made available on the private open market.

There is no mention in the documents of affordable housing but developers say they will 'add to the diversity of the housing market and population of the area, successfully creating diverse communities'.

Ahead of the second phase being built, there is the option for murals to be painted on the side of the six storey building. Suggested images in the planning documents include Emmeline Pankhurst, the Manchester bee symbol and poetry from John Cooper Clarke.

New Bailey is an enormous £650m project that aims to create a 'gateway' between Salford and Manchester. A number of massive developments are already underway along the River Irwell.
