These are the faces of the three people jailed after Thomas Campbell was tortured to death

These are the faces of the three people jailed after Thomas Campbell was 'tortured to death' in his own home. The 38-year-old was ambushed by three men as he went to unlock the front door of his home in Mossley, Tameside, last summer.

He was subdued, dragged into his home and tortured for two hours. He suffered 61 separate injuries, and died in the early hours.

A neighbour found him dead in the hallway of his home, naked apart from a pair of socks, after noticing his front door was wide open. Police launched a murder probe and following a meticulous investigation, three people, including Mr Campbell's ex-wife, were put on trial.

Coleen Campbell, 38, of Bamford Street, Clayton was found guilty of manslaughter. She was sentenced to 13 years in jail.

Greater Manchester Police have not released Ms Campbell's picture because they say she has outstanding matters before the court.

Reece Steven, 29, of Poplar Street, Middleton, was convicted of murder. He was handed a life sentence, and ordered to serve a minimum of 37 years.

Stephen Cleworth, 38, of Charles Street, Heywood, was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to life, to serve a minimum of 12 years. The trio were all also found guilty of conspiracy to rob.

Ms Campbell provided important intelligence to the alleged 'mastermind' of the attack on her ex-husband, 28-year-old John Belfield. At the time of his death, Mr Campbell was in a relationship with Belfield's ex-girlfriend.

Steven was one of the three attackers who ambushed Mr Campbell, a convicted drug dealer, on Saturday, July 2. Cleworth was not present at the killing but played an important part in the detailed preparations ahead of the attack, including placing a tracking device on Mr Campbell's car.

In a statement after today's court hearing, Detective Inspector Mark Davis, of GMP, said: "The sentencing today comes after a lengthy investigation which started in July 2022 which carefully traced the movements of those involved. A team of detectives in GMP's Major Incident Team have worked tirelessly to search for answers for his family.

"During the investigation, we have collected, reviewed and analysed hundreds of hours of CCTV, we've got nearly 3,000 exhibits, spoke to over 200 witnesses, and arrested 19 people in the quest to find justice for Thomas's family. The plan to kill Thomas Campbell was meticulously thought out using those closest to Thomas, to find out his every move, focusing on his daily routine, which was known well by Coleen Campbell who was recruited into the group to share information they needed to carry out the attack.

"She provided the exact locations of the whereabouts of Thomas Campbell, through phone messages and calls to a member of the group. On the night of July 2, Thomas was attacked when opening his front door.

"Thomas was overpowered outside his own home, assaulted on his doorstep and dragged inside before being subjected to two hours of unimaginable torture, where he suffered 61 horrific injuries. This was an unnecessary attack, and the pure anger and undiluted aggression showcased by those who attacked him ultimately cost Thomas his life.

"Our thoughts remain with his family as they continue to come to terms with their loss. No length of sentence will bring Thomas back, and his family will still be grieving.

"Those sentenced today now have a long time ahead of them to reflect upon the hurt they have caused. Even though three people have now been jailed for their involvement, our work doesn't stop here.

"We will keep pushing for justice until Thomas' family receive answers, and all those responsible are brought to justice."
