It's difficult to spend a day on social media without coming across one of the British royals, particularly Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. It turns out that the Duchesses not only have a different sense of style, they also attract different emoji reactions on Twitter.
Online trends provider SEMRUSH analysed tweets over the past month about the Duchesses and broke down the top twenty emojis associated with Meghan and Kate.
The most popular emoji associated with Meghan Markle was the face with tears of joy (😂), while Kate Middleton’s was the smiling face with heart eyes (😍).
Markle’s list of emojis also appear to have a couple of callbacks to her hometown of California, with a cactus (🌵) ranked second, as well as a Canadian maple leaf (🍁), which came in third. Markle lived in Toronto for many years, as her former TV show Suits was filmed there.
A red English rose also ranked within Kate’s top twenty emojis, but further down the list.
On the other hand, Kate Middleton’s second most popular emoji was of a crown (👑), which came seventh on Markle’s list. The princess emoji was missing from both lists.
The emojis also seemed to touch on one of Meghan Markle’s meaningful actions at a charity visit in Bristol earlier this month. While supporting One25 charity - an organisation which works to help “women break free from street sex-work, addiction and other life-controlling issues” - she asked for a sharpie and wrote empowering messages on bananas, which were then placed into food parcels for distribution. Fittingly, a banana emoji popped up among her most popular emojis.
