These are the charities the Robin Hood Marathon Events will be raising money for this year

Organisers of this year's Robin Hood Marathon Events have revealed who their charity partners will be for the 2019 version of the race.

Goldline Events, which organises the two-day running festival, is supporting a number of local and national charities, with thousands of pounds expected to be raised throughout the weekend of September 28 and 29.

Once again Cancer Research UK is the headline charity, but the event will also raise money for local charities such as Forever Stars and Maggie's.

Judith Manson, race director, said: "Charities are integral to the Ikano Bank Robin Hood Marathon Events weekend.

"We are immensely proud of the work of our charity partners and look forward to supporting them on their journey.

"The 2019 event promises to be another great year for charities to spread the word about the brilliant work they’re doing while raising vital funds.

"Seeing runners of all ages participate on behalf of their chosen charity is incredibly moving.

"Running for a cause so close to their hearts really gives them that extra drive to push themselves across the Victoria Embankment finish line in September."

Last year, 9,000 runners took part in the events, which for the first time included the Robin Hood Mile Challenge on the Saturday of the weekend.

Runners can also raise money by taking part in the mini marathon and the half marathon.

The full list of partner charities are; NSPCC, ABF The Soldier's Charity, Autism East Midlands, Equation, Forever Stars, The Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance, Stoke Association, The Children's Bereavement Centre, Maggie's, Nottingham Hospitals Charity, Nottingham Forest Community Trust and Notts County FC Football in the Community.

Lauren Alcock, centre fundraiser at Maggie's Nottingham, said: “We love getting involved with the Robin Hood Half Marathon as it helps us to raise awareness of the services we provide to people with cancer and their loved ones.

"We need to raise £500,000 each year and we rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters. The funds raised through this event allow us to continue to support local families affected by cancer."

Henry Amor, community fundraiser at Nottingham Charity Hospitals, says: “We are delighted to again be a charity partner of the Ikano Bank Robin Hood Marathon Events weekend.

"Each year our supporters raise funds for areas of the hospitals very close to them; from improving end of life care at Hayward House to funding new services and facilities at our Children’s Hospital, which is transforming care for over 60,000 young people across Nottingham."
