These are the best Nottingham pubs for local real ale according to CAMRA

Real ale fans need look no further than the Star Inn in Beeston for the best range of locally brewed beers and ciders.

The pub has been named CAMRA's LocAle Pub of the Year - for the second time.

Now in its eighth year, the competition scores pubs on the quality of local brews from within a 20 mile radius.

Twelves finalists were judged after nominations from the public, based on monthly lists published by the Nottingham Drinker.

To be eligible pubs need to stock at least one locally brewed ale or cider - the Star Inn, in Middle Street, has at least four or five every week.

Owner Damian McGrath said: "I couldn't be prouder at this moment in time. I think Nottingham has been the epi-centre of micro breweries for ten to 15 years and we like to support the local breweries.

"You get more variations in taste and they can be more experimental as they don't have to produce the large quantities of the big brewers."

The Star, which previously won the award in 2017, features beers from an "endless list" including Nottingham Brewery, Totally Tapped and Scribber's Ales.

Mellor’s Mews, Eastwood

Robin Hood and Little John, Arnold

Abdication, Daybrook

Judges visiting the finalists scored the quality and the range of locally produced beers and ciders. This year more than 70 separate surveys were undertaken.

“As one would expect the finalists were all high quality pubs – having already won through from the preliminary rounds and the winner therefore had to be outstanding” said Andrew Ludlow, the secretary of Nottingham CAMRA.

"The Star Inn is the first pub to have won the award twice and is to be commended on its consistency and high quality beers and ciders," he added.

The prestigious award will be handed over at the Star Inn, Beeston, this Friday at 7.30pm.

Nottingham has 173 pubs with the LocAle accreditation, which ensures more variety for the customers, helps boost the local economy and reduces "beer miles" benefiting the environment.
