For when you simply need a place to rest your head, hostels are a great cheap travel option.
While you may share rooms and toilet facilities with other travellers, staying in a hostel allows you to meet and mingle with other like-minded people, which can sometimes manifest into a lasting friendship.
Hostelworld, the go-to directory for hostels across the globe, has released its annual list of the best hostels in the world for 2019. Or as they’ve coined them, the HOSCARS.
Within this list is the best hostel for female solo travellers, the best hostel across each continent and the best value hostel – anyone fancy staying in Vietnam for just £3.92 per night?
The way Hostelworld judged which hostels would nab the top spots was by analysing data from the 1.2 million reviews submitted over the past year, looking at customer experience, value for money, security, location, cleanliness and atmosphere among other things.
Last year also saw a 42 per cent rise in solo travel bookings on the site which has led them to introduce award categories for both female and male solo travellers.
