These are the 10 hardest Bristol schools to get into

There's no denying Bristol is a popular place to live for families.

With its lush green spaces, huge culture and food scene and excellent shopping, people have been flocking to our city for years.

But because numbers have swelled, there is now fierce competition for the city's best schools.

At the most sought-after schools, literally hundreds of parents are fighting over one place.

And with Bristol's popularity ever-growing it seems the problem will only increase.

There were 142 more applications than last year, and the number who missed out on being offered one of their preferred schools rose from 104 to 129.

We have compiled a list of the top 10 most oversubscribed schools for the next academic year 2020/21 starting this September, according to figures released by the three local authorities.

The 10 toughest schools to secure a place in Bristol

1) Whitehall Primary School

Applicants: 316

Places offered: 90

Refused: 226

2) Cathedral Primary School

Applicants: 274

Places offered: 60

Refused: 214

3) St Ursula’s E-ACT Academy

Applicants: 299

Places offered: 90

Refused: 209 (three were later offered a place in the second round of allocations)

4) Victoria Park Primary School

Applicants: 256

Places offered: 60

Refused: 196 (one was later offered a place in the second round of allocations)

5) Elmlea Infant School

Applicants: 258

Places offered: 90

Refused: 168 (four were later offered a place in the second round of allocations)

6) Brunel Field Primary School

Applicants: 206

Places offered: 60

Refused: 146

7) Bishop Road Primary School

Applicants: 261

Places offered: 120

Refused: 141

8) St John’s CE VC Primary School

Applicants: 212

Places offered: 75

Refused: 137

9) Holymead Primary School

Applicants: 226

Places offered: 90
