These are the 10 father-son combinations who have won PGA Tour events

First, a disclaimer. We are not predicting future professional success for Charlie Woods, the golfing offspring of proud papa Tiger Woods. We’re enjoying watching him grow up right in front of our eyes alongside dad at the PNC Championship, but Charlie, like any young phenom, has a long road ahead before he starts hoisting trophies.

Nonetheless, it is fun to think of the possibilities. And if Charlie were to ascend to the Tour and starting winning on that level, those two would join a pretty exclusive list.

There are 10 father-son combinations to win on the PGA Tour. The first happened all the way back in 1861. The most recent occurred in 2018. Here’s the list.

Willie Park / Willie Park Jr.

Willie Park won the inaugural Open Championship in 1860. His son Willie Park Jr. later duplicated the feat in 1887.

Tom Morris, Sr. / Tom Morris, Jr.

Tom Morris, Sr., better known as Old Tom Morris, won the second-ever Open Championship in 1861. His son, Tom Morris, Jr. – aka Young Tom Morris – won the same championship seven years later.

Joe Kirkwood, Sr. / Joe Kirkwood

Joe Kirkwood, Sr., claimed the 1923 California Open and his son Joe Kirkwood won the 1949 Philadelphia Inquirer Open.

Of note, the Australian PGA Championship hands out the Joe Kirkwood Cup  to its winner.

Jack Burke, Sr. / Jack Burke, Jr.

Jack Burke, Sr. won two times on the PGA Tour, including the 1925 Texas PGA Championship. His son Jack Burke, Jr., counts the 1950 Rio Grande Valley Open among his 16 Tour tiles.

Clayton Heafner / Vance Heafner

Clayton Heafner, with the 1941 Mahoning Open, and Vance Heafner, at the 1981 Walt Disney World National Team Championship, won their father-son titles 40 years apart. Vance’s was his lone PGA Tour win, coming in a team event.

Julius Boros / Guy Boros

The most recent father/son combo to win a major remains the 1952 U.S. Open win by Julius Boros. In 1996, Guy Boros won the Greater Vancouver Open. This duo combined for 17 PGA Tour wins, with dad claiming 16 of them.

Al Geiberger / Brent Geiberger

The man who shot the PGA Tour’s first 59 is also on this list as dad Al Geiberger won the 1962 Ontario Open Invitational, 37 years ahead of son Brent Geiberger’s 1999 win in the Canon Greater Hartford Open.

In 1998, the Geibergers played in the PGA Championship. Brent made the cut, but Al, who was 61, did not. It ended up being Al’s final major championship appearance.

Jay Haas / Bill Haas

Jay Haas won the 1978 Andy Williams-San Diego Open Invitational and his son Bill Haas won the 2010 Bob Hope Classic. Jay has nine PGA Tour wins to six by Bill.

Craig Stadler / Kevin Stadler

Father-son duo Craig and Kevin Stadler during the 2014 Masters week at Augusta National.

Kevin Stadler’s lone PGA Tour win came in the 2014 WM Phoenix Open.

Craig Stadler, who had seven wins, including the 1982 Masters in his first three years on Tour, kickstarted his career by winning the 1980 Bob Hope Desert Classic.

Bob Tway / Kevin Tway

The most recent father-son duo to win would be the 2018 Safeway Open title by Kevin Tway, still his lone Tour win. Father Bob won the 1986 Shearson Lehman Brothers Andy Williams Open, the first of four wins that season. He has eight Tour wins in all.
