Road closures happen for a number of reasons: from big scale events to the more mundane causes, sucg as gas and electric works and repairs, roadworks and resurfacing and so on.
And while the council - along with those carrying out the works - try to keep disruption to a minimum, some delays and diversions are inevitable.
To keep your journeys as smooth as possible, it helps to plan ahead.
These are all the roads that will be closed, or partially closed, within the borough of Sefton over the next month:
Ainsdale
Cornwall Way will be closed from August 16 - September 6 for carriageway resurfacing.
Aintree
Aintree Lane will be closed from next Monday (August 12) until Sunday, September 1.
Taunton Drive will be closed on Monday, September 2 only.
Birkdale
Grosvenor Road will be closed from August 19-24 while works to the level crossing are carried out.
Weld Road will be closed on Sunday September 1 only for waterworks repairs.
Blundellsands
Burbo Bank Road will be closed from Tuesday August 27 - Friday September 6 for gas mains replacement works.
Bootle
Raleigh Street and Dacre Street will both be closed from today (Monday) until August 11 due to electrical connection works on Derby Road.
Moss Lane will be closed Monday and Tuesday, August 19 & 20, for carriageway reinstatement works.
Litherland Road will be closed from Monday, August 19 until Sunday, September 8.
Formby
Alt Road remains closed today and will be closed until Friday, August 23.
Halsall Lane will close on Sunday, August 11 for roadworks.
Barkfield Avenue will be closed on Wednesday, September 4 for roadworks.
Hightown
Sandy Lane will be closed between August 26-30 for carriageway works.
Litherland
Bowland Drive will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday August 28 & 29 for carriageway repair works.
Lydiate
Pilling Lane will be closed today (Monday) only.
Maghull
Liverpool Road South will close from September 3 until March 31 (2020) while junction improvement works are carried out. You can read more about this here.
Melling
Hayes Drive will be closed from September 2-15 for sewer repair works.
Netherton
Albert Schweitzer Avenue will be closed from September 2-15 for electrical connection works.
Southport
Zetland Street remains closed but will reopen tomorrow (Tuesday, August 6).
Haig Avenue closed for carriageway resurfacing on Friday and is to remain closed until Friday August 23.
Portland Street will be closed from August 12-17 while the level crossing is lifted so the track beneath can be inspected, and the crossing surface replaced.
Allerton Road will be closed on Monday August 19 only for carriageway repairs.
Rutland Road will be closed from August 21 until September 16 for road resurfacing.
Norwood Road will be closed from August 27-31 while gas, electric and water mains works are undertaken.
Portland Street will again be closed on Saturday August 31 and Sunday September 1 while ducts are installed.
Town Lane (Kew) will be closed from September 2 until September 13 for road resurfacing.
Waterloo
South Road will be closed from Sep 2-6 for link box replacement works.
