Thermometer map shows how hard Brexit will hit your area of Glasgow

An new interactive map published by the Scottish Government illustrates the areas of Glasgow which are expected to be most vulnerable to the consequences of Brexit.

The research, which looks at Scotland as a whole, also looks at what drives those risks to support local authorities and other organisations in understanding local risks around EU exit.

It analyses data on eight variables, including income deprivation, workers in Brexit-sensitive industries and access to services (i.e. travel time to core services such as GP surgeries) to produce a Brexit Vulnerability Index score for nearly 7,000 different areas (datazones) in Scotland.

And while more rural areas appear to be of proportionately greater risk, within Glasgow itself 186,000 people live within the 20% most vulnerable datazones in all of Scotland - more than any other local authority and more than the Highlands and Aberdeenshire combined.

A closer look at the figures for Glasgow show that Wynford in the north of the city features as one of the most areas most vulnerable in Scotland, with specific concerns regarding the variables of population change and access to services post-Brexit.

To the west of the city, Blairdardie East features as one of the most vulnerable areas in the map, especially due to the variables regarding concerns about the effect to workers in Brexit-sensitive industries and working age population.

Meanwhile to the south, the research puts Pollock North and East in a similar bracket of vulnerability, especially concerning the effect to workers in Brexit-sensitive industries and access to services.

And to the east, Shettleston North figures among the 20% most vulnerable areas in Scotland via a multitude of concerns post-Brexit, especially that of working age population and population change.
