Theresa May says she will quit once her Brexit deal is passed

Theresa May has today told Conservative MPs that she will quit once her Brexit deal is passed.

The Prime Minister has been facing calls from what was initially 30 Tory MPs to quit, after many said this would help them support the deal.

Upon leaving a meeting of the 1922 Committee in Westminster, MP James Cartlidge said Theresa May has told Tory MPs "she would not remain in post for the next phase of the negotiations".

She confirmed she would stand down once the deal had passed in a bid to convince more Brexiteers to back a vote, and the latest announcement comes after the Government said it could being back the meaningful vote for a third time on Friday.

John Bercow, Speaker of the Commons, said however the deal would require 'substantial changes' before it could be put forward to MPs again.
