Theresa May has been mocked for delivering her latest Brexit speech in front of a background full of mugs.

In a final push to save her Brexit deal ahead of tomorrow's so-called meaningful vote, Mrs May reiterated her stance that her plans are the best possible in a speech today during a visit to the Portmeirion factory in Stoke-on-Trent.

She also warned of “catastrophic harm” if Brexit it not delivered by politicians.

But, many were quick to point out the bizarre background choice for her speech.

The Times columnist Matt Chorely posted a screengrab of the speech on Twitter, and wrote: “Theresa May seems to be making a speech in front of a load of mugs.”

Others replied mocking the unusual choice.

One responded: “That’s no way to describe the conservative backbenchers.“

Another added: “Siri show me a metaphor for Tory brexit, and brexit supporters.”

Others said it is not the first time she has spoken in front of “mugs”.

“Yes, but those are a lot more intelligent than the ones usually behind her in the HoC,” wrote one person.

Another added: “No different to PMQs then?”

However, some pointed out that the main audience at the prime minister’s speech was made up of the media.

One said: “Jokes don't go down well on Twitter — but I like this one — many of the audience are journalists.”
