Theresa May is targeting her own MPs over Brexit and senior figures are furious

The Tories are taking aim at their own MPs on Brexit in a new leaflet that has left senior party figures furious.

The leaflet, produced by the Conservative Party ahead of the European elections, encourages supporters to lobby Brexiteer MPs who voted down Theresa May ’s Brexit deal.

The leaflet, entitled “How to show you want a Brexit deal delivered as soon as possible” says “for a deal to pass it needs the support of more than half of all MPs".

It includes a photograph of Mrs May, who is quoted as saying: “At this critical moment for our country, parties should not be playing politics - or acting for their own personal gain. We need to come together, stay the course, and deliver Brexit in the national interest."

EU election poll has Tories in FIFTH place as MP admits they'll get a 'mauling'

The leaflet points readers to a website where they can enter their postcode to see how their MP voted on the Brexit deal.

It then offers to send an email directly to the reader’s MP, and in the process captures their address and email data to add to Tory email and canvassing lists.

Former minister Priti Patel said the leaflet was “totally unbelievable.”

The outraged ex-International Development Secretary said: “The Conservative party has reached a new low when it is campaigning against its own Members of Parliament.”

The leaflet goes on to suggest the EU elections could be cancelled if MPs back the PM's deal before polling day - next Thursday.

It reads: “If a majority of Members of Parliament back a deal in time, we could cancel the elections and get on with leaving the European Union - and all the other important issues facing our country.

“At this critical moment for our country, parties should be playing politics - or acting for their own personal gain.

“We need to come together, stay the course, and deliver Brexit in the national interest."
