Theresa May 'considering giving Tory donor a plum job' in final weeks of office

Theresa May is reportedly considering giving Tory donor a plum job in her final weeks of office.

Sky News reported talks are ongoing about making Simon Blagden a Department for International Trade minister.

Such a decision would involve giving the former UK boss of Fujitsu a seat in the House of Lords.

Mr Blagden has not made donations to the Conservative Party personally.

However, the company Pietas Ltd - where he is a director - has given more than £100,000 to the central party or individual MPs since the start of 2017.

The job would be to replace Baroness Fairhead and involve negotiating trade deals with countries outside the EU after Brexit .

So far it has been a tricky task. As of mid-May the UK had signed only 10 continuity deals, the BBC reported.

If he were to win the role it would not be the first government job held by Mr Blagden.

He was named as a member of the Apprenticeship Delivery Board in 2016.

According to Sky News, Mr Blagden expressed "surprise" at being asked if he was being lined up for a ministerial role.

He declined to comment to the broadcaster.

Downing Street declined to comment to the Mirror.
