Six years on from the breakdown of her second marriage, Fern Britton has revealed the one issue she has with getting divorced.
While she admitted in a new interview she’s “not really someone who regrets things,” the former This Morning star, 69, said the “only thing’ she does is ‘being divorced twice.”
Fern, who shares twins Harry and Jack, 31, and Grace, 28, with first husband Clive Jones and 23-year-old daughter Winnie with ex Phil Vickery, explained that it is “because of the effect” it had on her children.
She did, however, say “I don’t regret getting married because those relationships were right at the time,’”before cryptically adding, “Things are wonderful until they aren’t.”
Last year Fern told woman&home, that she’s “not looking for love.” She explained, “I’m still a bit too wary of losing my liberty.” She added that while there’s “nobody to run something past” now it “never really worked out,” so she is happy living life on her own terms. “I am my own boss now, which is great… I'm my own boss and I'm enjoying that.”
The presenter concluded, “I’ve got lovely friends and I have a lovely social life, which is quite enough for me.”
In 2020 she shocked fans when she announced her split from This Morning Chef Phil after two decades of marriage. While Fern previously told us, “Phil and I had the greatest fun together and we have the most beautiful daughter together… So we will always be connected,” earlier this year she admitted, “He hasn't spoken to me for six years.”
She did, however, say that for daughter Winnie’s sake she tries “very hard not to” bad-mouth him.
Prior to Phil she was married to TV executive Clive from 1988 to 2000. Speaking about the surprising catalyst of their break-up, the star revealed that an “immense rift” occurred after she secretly took the Mensa IQ Test.
“He had this degree and I don’t. I secretly went off and did the Mensa. I lied, I said I was going somewhere else, and it took a day to do this test. I passed - and quite well too,” she reflected.
The author added, “He was furious so he did it because he’s got a huge brain. But he’s not a problem solver and he didn’t get it. So an immense rift opened.”
