‘There’s a camera above the bed’: California woman opens wrong door in her Airbnb, finds prison-looking room, complete with a stain on the floor

When you really think about it, staying at an Airbnb requires a lot of trust; after all, you’re going to be staying in a complete stranger’s house. But while a host has to worry about messy guests, the people who stay in the bnb have to worry about what the host might be hiding.

It might sound like some guests are just being paranoid, but people have had some pretty bizarre and frightening experiences while staying at an Airbnb, and their stories, more often than not, inevitably find their way to TikTok. In this case, a woman who claimed to be staying at an Airbnb found something that would likely send most sane people running for the front door.

Wendy Bohon shared a video of her apparently opening a door in her bnb, the caption reads, “Be careful what doors you open in your Airbnb.” As she pushes open a white door, it reveals a short but dark corridor behind; the weird layout almost gives off Backrooms vibes but things are about to get a lot weirder.

As Wendy reaches the end of the corridor, she stumbles upon a dark room that can only be described as a prison cell. A small bed adorns one side of the wall, with a single chair facing it on the opposite side. But the worst part, by far, is the dark stain on the floor near the bed.

People on TikTok notice even creepier details

One person in the comments pointed out that someone may have been watching: “So yeah there’s a camera above the bed it’s best to leave now,” they advised. Sure enough, there does look to be a dark shape on the wall above the bed, although it’s difficult to say for certain whether it’s a camera or not.

Others speculated on the stain with one person asking the question everybody was thinking: “Is it a blood stain?” Another theorized it could have been feces. There were also plenty of comparisons to the horror movie, Barbarian, which centers on a woman who finds a labyrinthine maze underneath the bnb she’s staying at.

Wendy’s discovery is not unlike many others shared by Airbnb guests on TikTok. While some may have innocent enough explanations, it’s difficult to think of one in this case and viewers demanded more context.

Wendy soon returned to provide viewers with more details, stating that the Airbnb was in La Jolla, California. Wendy claimed she and her friends were looking for the room her friend was supposed to be sleeping in; eventually, they found their way down to the basement where the friend’s room was, along with a bunch of other stuff. That was also where they found the creepy door to the prison room; however, Wendy claims it was a “bomb shelter,” and a sign even said guests could enter.

So it seems there was a rather ordinary explanation after all. Wendy even claimed she hid in the room in the dark to scare her friends.
