There will be a gun salute at Edinburgh Castle to mark the Queen's 93rd birthday.
While the Monarch actually celebrated her birthday yesterday, a series of gun salutes will take place across the country today. This is because gun salutes are never held on a Sunday.
In Edinburgh this is scheduled to take place at midday.
This is the first of two birthdays celebrated by Queen Elizabeth II. While she was born on 21 April, there is another official birthday on the second Saturday in June.
This tradition dates back to the reign of King George II in the 1700s. Because his birthday came in the winter the conditions weren't always suitable for a large public celebration. As a result the official celebration was moved to the summer.
Elizabeth II was the first child of the then Duke and Duchess of York when she was born in her grandparents' house at 17 Bruton Street, Mayfair.
She became Britain's longest-reigning monarch four years ago and is also the world's longest reigning monarch alive today. She is Head of State, the Armed Forces and the Commonwealth.
There will also be a 62-gun salute by the Honourable Artillery Company at the Tower of London today as part of the celebrations.
