"There was blood on the pavement": Huge street brawl involving ten people, machetes and metal bars leaves six men in hospital

A violent 'large scale fight' involving 10 people left six men in hospital, police have revealed.

Some of those involved were armed with weapons including machetes and metal bars.

The disturbance broke out in broad daylight at lunchtime on Great Ducie Street in Cheetham Hill, just outside the city centre.

A witness told the Manchester Evening News a gang of men stormed a building on the road and attacked people inside before the violence spilled out onto the street.

"There were five guys, one with a machete and the other one had a baseball bat.

"The others had makeshift weapons as well," said the witness, who also claimed one of those involved was carrying a mop handle.

"They ran into one of the shops on Great Ducie Street and a man was attacked with a machete.

"It was all happening on the street after that.

"Lots of people were running around screaming. There was blood on the pavement.

"Crime scene investigators were present and the police were there, too.

"It was very scary."

Greater Manchester Police said six men 'self-presented' at a hospital later.

Their injuries, the force said, were 'believed to have been obtained during the fight'.

No arrests have been made.

The force said enquiries were continuing and have issued a public appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

The extent of the injuries suffered has not been disclosed.

Police said officers were initially called at noon on Friday to reports of a disturbance on Bury New Road, which Great Ducie Street leads on to.

"Some of the men involved were armed with weapons including machetes and metal bars.

"Six men have since self-presented at hospital with injuries believed to have been obtained during the fight.

"Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage."
