There was an earthquake off the coast of Dublin in the Irish Sea yesterday evening

An earthquake was reported in the Irish Sea off the coast of Dublin yesterday evening.

The M2.5 quake was detected just before 8pm according to the Irish National Seismic Network.

The epicentre of the quake was 90km off the north east coast of Dublin and 40km south of the Isle of Man.

A further M1.7 event was detected in the Irish Sea off the English coast near Blackpool early this morning.

The INSN said: "The Irish Sea experiences regular events, with a similar smaller event on the 17th of November 2019."

There have not been any reports that the earthquake was felt onshore.
