Police from three jurisdictions responded to reports of a stabbing at 1st and C Street SE early Friday afternoon. The reports were confirmed by Metro Transit Police shortly after.
A witness to the immediate aftermath of the incident, who identified himself as Chuck Decker, told reporters that a WMATA employee immediately tended to the victim, putting “a bunch of towels” on the wound, “try[ing] to stop the bleeding.”
Decker, an American University Student who was on Capitol Hill for a meeting, said that he couldn’t see how many times the individual was stabbed, explaining only “there was a lot of blood.”
Details about the victim are not known at this time.
Roads around Capitol South Metro Station have reopened to traffic, but the station will be closed until further notice.
UPDATE: D.C. police sent a notification, via the DC Alert system, at 5:50 pm that police activity at Capitol South Metro Station has “cleared” and “affected train lines are back in service."
