There's something wrong with the water supply in Middleton and residents haven't been able to shower since Monday

Some residents in Middleton say they have not been able to have a shower since Monday due to a technical glitch with the water supply.

United Utilities engineers have been working on the water network in the M24 area since problems were reported on Monday evening.

Neighbours in the area have said they have been unable to have hot showers since the problems started.

Others have reported their tap water has been turning a brown colour over the last three days.

The problems struck the town at around 8.30pm.

One resident posted on the United Utilities Facebook page: "Is there any issue with the water supply around the M24/Middleton area? The water from our taps has a curious, and disconcerting, brown coloration."

A spokesman for United Utilities said: “Engineers are currently dealing with a technical issue on a section of the water network serving parts of the M24 area of Middleton.

"This is currently causing poor pressure for some properties. We’re really sorry about this.

"We believe with the work currently taking place, water pressure will start to return to normal during the course of today and we will continue to monitor the situation to ensure this does happen.”

United Utilities have issued a warning alert to residents in M24 and said 'Water on Wheels' vehicles are stationed around the area to maintain supplies.

It comes after a water pipe burst on a nearby industrial in Heywood.

Around 30 units at Hooley Bridge Mill were flooded as a result on Monday morning.

Engineers have been on site repairing the pipe, but Bamford Road is expected to be shut for a fortnight.
