There’s something special about Florida sunsets

I am not a morning person, so the sunrise has never been my thing. But I like the sunset.

Growing up in Southern California, I never paid much attention to sunsets. The sun sets to the west, but in the urban sprawl of Los Angeles County you don’t see the sun go down over the water. I would look up at the San Gabriel Mountains while driving along the 57 Freeway.

Things changed when I moved to Florida and settled down in Palm Harbor. Now my mountains are cumulonimbus clouds towering in the Florida sky. Combined with the setting sun, those clouds create spectacular, fiery sunsets.

As a photojournalist I always carry a camera everywhere, even if it's just my iPhone. My camera roll is full of local sunset images.

I try to frame the scene within the context of a place or people. Sometimes the colors of the sky right before and after the sun sets take the composition to another level.

These are just a few of my favorite sunset images.
