'There's quality' - Steve McClaren gives his verdict on Nottingham Forest under Chris Hughton

Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve McClaren has backed the Reds to have a “very good season” under new manager Chris Hughton.

Forest have made an encouraging to start life under Hughton, taking four points from his first two games in charge.

Next up for a Reds is a trip to arch-rivals Derby County, another club McClaren has managed during his well-travelled career.

McClaren, who resigned as Forest boss in 2011 after just 112 days in charge, discussed the Reds during an appearance on Sky Sports’ Football Show today.

“They nearly went up last season and they’ve added quality, there’s quality already in place there and in Chris Hughton, they’ve got a man who knows the league,” said the former England boss.

“There are certainly plenty of goals in that dressing room. You’ve got Joe Lolley, Luke Freeman, Sammy Ameobi, Lewis Grabban and they’ll always be a threat going forward. We saw that last night [against Rotherham] with the goal they scored.

“Hughton’s got to find his best team but he’s certainly got a squad of players to have a very good season there.”
