There’s only one man who can save tonight’s dreadful Commanders-Bears TNF game

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

Thursday Night Football is back in our lives tonight and I don’t know about you but i’m still not completely over last week’s dreadful Colts-Broncos game, which might have been the worst professional football game ever played. It was bad. Real bad.

So thankfully tonight we got… Commanders-Bears!?

Noooooooooooooooooo!

(Throws bowl of Corn Pops against the wall.)

This matchup has all the makings of Colts-Broncos Part 2, I know. I’ve seen a lot of football and I know when I see a possible stinker coming our way. I’m sure you have, too, and that the mere mention of this matchup is sending off stink bombs in your heads.

Is it tough this morning to try to talk myself into this game between a 2-3 team (the Bears) and a 1-4 team (The Commanders, who are also one of the worst franchises in all of sports)? Boy is it. Just look at the cereal on my wall!

But there is one player who could save us from the misery we see looming on our Thursday night planner.

No, not Carson Wentz. He stinks. Just ask his coach.

I’m talking about… Justin Fields.

The second-year QB has shown some signs of becoming the star player that Bears fans have desperately wanted for so many years. Has he been lighting it up so far this year? No, I wouldn’t say that. But he does have the ability to make great plays out of nothing and this could be his coming out party in front of a national TV audience.

This would be a perfect time for the Fields to have one of those big games that has the stadium rocking and has NFL fans thinking a star has officially been born.

This would be a great time for the Bears’ coaches to really let Fields open it up and have a night.

So that is all something!

I know, I sound desperate and sad this morning. But I am looking forward to watching Fields play with no other NFL games on to distract me. It could be a lot more fun than watching Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson play. That’s pretty much the lowest of all the bars, but whatever. It’s Thursday morning and we need something to feel hopeful about.

Commanders. Bears. Soldier Field. Tonight. Let’s do it.

(Please don’t be as bad as last week’s game!)

Quick hits: Week 6 NFL picks against the spread… Kershaw’s ridiculous strike… Goose disrupts Padres-Dodgers… And more.

– Week 6 is here and so are our picks against the spread, including for Sunday’s massive Bills-Chiefs showdown in Kansas City.

– Clayton Kershaw bounced a pitch well before the plate last night and still got the batter to swing at it.

– Speaking of Padres-Dodgers, a goose flew on the field last night, which was awesome.

– Russell Westbrook and Jaden McDaniels played a silly game of hot potato with an inbound pass last night in Los Angeles.
