There's now a recipe for Vegemite icy poles — and you're all divided

It may be an iconic Australian spread, but would you eat a Vegemite icy pole?

The brand announced the release of the recipe on Twitter, to the disbelief of many.

"Brace yourselves Australia … it's time for VEGEMITE Icy Poles! #chilled," the company wrote.

It's not the first time Vegemite has sparked controversy, but it may just be the most divisive. If you're game enough to try it, the full recipe is on the Vegemite website.

Here's how you make it

Combine in a saucepan the sugar, cocoa, honey, Vegemite, corn flour and milk.

Whisk over a medium heat until the mixture is smooth, bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer gently until slightly thickened and custard like.

Remove from the heat, pour into a heat proof bowl and chill. Fold the whipped cream through the chilled custard mixture then pour into popsicle moulds. Freeze until firm.

But it's divided the nation

Users, as expected, either welcomed the new recipe or complained it was a step too far.

Many were keen for it to remain as a spread

And saw the icy poles as a punishment

But some were curious

And for one person it was the final straw
