'There’s no excuse' - Josh Taylor meets Edinburgh doorman he racially abused to apologise

Josh Taylor has met the Edinburgh bouncer he was fined £350 for hurling racist and homophobic racially abuse to apologise.

The incident happened after the world boxing champion was thrown out of Shanghai nightclub at the weekend.

Taylor called the Asian bouncer “a gay looking c**t” and labelled him “a big Orange looking c**t” in a drunken rant.

Taylor, who currently holds the WBC and IBF world boxing titles, took to Twitter following the incident, saying there was "no excuse" for his behavior.

He said: "I can only apologise, not only to those whom I offended, but to my family and friends for the upset I’ve caused.

"There’s no excuse for the comments and the disturbance. I’m going to take some time off over Christmas to reflect on my actions and ensure it never happens again."

The 28-year-old southpaw boxer has also now met the victim, who has not been named, to apologise face-to-face.

According to the Daily Record, the pair met at Fountainpark and the bouncer appeared to welcome the ten-minute exchange as they shook hands.

Speaking in court, Sheriff Nigel Ross noted Taylor was “ashamed and had apologised” and fined him a total of £350 for the foul-mouthed outburst.

The sheriff added: “I am sure you aware of your position as a role model and I am sure you will adjust your behaviour in the future after this.”
