'There's fat lads up north too' Fury as McDonald's to open no Yorkshire restaurants

When news broke earlier today that McDonald's were opening 15 branches across the country, Big Mac fans began celebrating wildly.

That is, of course, until it was revealed that no restaurants are opening at all in Yorkshire.

In fact, three of the 15 McDonald's branches which are set to open on May 13 as part of a limited trial are in a relatively condensed area in the south of England - with three opening in Luton alone.

The most 'northerly' McDonald's to open will be in Ipswich, which is a minimum three-hour drive from Yorkshire.

The trial will be subject to strict new rules, with drive thru's closed, a limited menu offered and the only option being via delivery.

When quizzed by LeedsLive about why no restaurants outside the south east would be opening, a spokesperson said: "These 15 restaurants were chosen for their proximity to our distribution centre [in Hemel Hempstead] as we slowly but safely seek to reopen our restaurants and restart our supply chain.

"Rest assured we are working hard to reopen more restaurants across the UK and Ireland at the right time."

However, the fast food chain seemed to offer a glimmer of light in responses to customers on Twitter.

In a tweet, they said: "We are operating a trial of 15 restaurants for a couple of weeks and we do hope to start expanding this trial very soon. As soon as we do, we will let you know through our usual communication channels or please do feel free to check again with us at a later date."

It didn't stop McDonald's fans from criticising the decision though and plenty were quick to point out that they felt as though the north had been abandoned.
